Swell Cometh

A small flag to mark the beginning of the season.

SUP Crew

We has some great times and were lucky to surf with some really cool guys, particularly the very friendly SUP crew at Nusa Dua including Svein, Andrew, Cindy, Scott, Pete, Trevor, Neil, Jason, Greg, Dave and a couple of dudes from the Gold coast. Pictured, SUPer Dave a retired New York fireman, long time surfer turned SUP charger, an athlete, fun guy and great ambassador for the sport.

Bangko Bangko

The famous Desert Point, by far the best wave I've ever surfed and a treat to score it off-season with only a few other guys. It was cool to chill there for a few days with Johnny and Will and share some amazing waves.

Green Ball

Used to surf Green Ball bay alone all the time years ago, it seems that everyone is wise to it now, still a good wave though and sometimes the only spot with surf when it gets small.

Turtle Island

Serangan is a great wave but it's also the most crowded wave in Bali this time of year. An easy wave to get caught inside and with the local drop-in crew it gets pretty dangerous out there.

Sri Lanka

When Nusa Dua gets huge around the corner Sri Lanka can work. A nice barreling right hander which can be perfect.

Blue Steel

It’s been over 11 years since my bro and I have seen each other let alone surfed together. It was awesome to see Dave again and catch a few waves together, way overdue. Our hire car named ‘Blue Steel’, possibly the oldest Toyota in Bali served us well.

Geger Reef

Bread and butter for this time of year and also one of the best breaks in Bali is Geger beach, Nusa Dua. When this place cranks the wave detonates with an audible boom and then grinds down the reef for hundreds of meters. We witnessed and experienced some major floggings, board breaks and massive set waves. The photo below is taken from the beach 1km away, double overhead sets, there’s actually a guy obscured by the white water riding this bomb, the little black dot in the middle is a guy on a standup. To be remembered as the day Dave creased my brand new board...all is forgiven bro.

Rocket Reef

Three days into the surf trip I tried Nikko Point aka Rocket Reef. There were a few guys taking off halfway so I moved up to the top of the reef. After a few good ones I mistimed a section and ended up going over with the lip backwards and dropped onto almost dry reef. Fractured a rib, received a good rubbing on the reef and some bruising. The fractured rib made lying on a surfboard and sleeping rather painful for the rest of the trip.
